World Can Turn Following the Calamities

I was fortunate to have been able to attend a meeting Joel Skousen held for a
group of his newsletter subscribers and friends in Salt Lake City last night.
Joel Skousen is one of the shining pillars of conservative thought in the patriot community.
The purpose of the meeting was to talk strategy in terms of how we are to reestablish liberty in a
world that has become so controlled by a socialist mentality headed by a conspiracy to usurp the
basic freedoms we hold dear.
He does not believe that we are going to be able to be instrumental in reforming the main organs of
politics in the world, but that victory will come through a small remnant that will triumphantly
survive the calamities that are poised to come on this earth.
He believes that God will allow Satan to obtain full control of the world for a season so that Satan
will not be able to argue that his plan was never given a chance. Satan's plan is nearly fully
implemented now, but it will topple.
That is when the remnant will be looked to for spiritual and political guidance.
But, Joel emphasizes, that is not when we should begin preparing an alternative to present to the
world. Rather, the time is now to begin forming a uniform system of law. We should begin now to have
a Constitutional Convention like debate on what the most valid principles are, and how those are to
be promoted and/or protected by government.
Such a debate will not be a smooth process. Conservatives tend to be so polarized and dogmatic in
their beliefs. Nevertheless, such a debate needs to take place and principles agreed upon, around
which the remnant can rally now and in the future.
As a working model, Joel presented a document he composed titled, "In
Defense of a Principled Approach to Law."
In it he outlines the need for such an approach, and he presents twelve core principles upon which
good law hinges.
He also has three introductory sections in which he address some important hang-ups that need to be
overcome for this to happen, including a discussion of why the Constitution is not sufficient to
protect our rights. When he addressed this last night, as you can imagine, it created quite a stir.
"A Constitution, a Constitution, we have got a Constitution, and there can be no more
Constitution," I retorted tartly in the meeting last night, alluding to the corollary concept
that God does give us more when we are ready, as addressed in II Nephi 29.

I basically said that we are doing what Joel suggested needs to be done. In the Congress we have a
mission statement and a platform, setting forth principles of good government; and we plan to refine
those through a process of ongoing dialogue and voting, with trust in God individually as we seek
divine guidance in our endeavors.
Joel speculated that we have a few years of relative peace remaining in which to pull together such
a coalition before being hit by a Sino-Soviet nuclear attack. At that point, he emphasized, we will
be so busy surviving that we will not have time to think about the proper role of government. This
needs to be in place first.
In the course of his presentation, Joel paused, and with great earnestness plead with everyone there
to prepare some kind of fall-out shelter so as to be able to be protected from the nuclear fallout
that is almost certain to come.
He envisions that during this crisis, lovers of freedom will migrate to the Intermountain West, both
because of the aspects of geographical safety, as well as the freedom that will be upheld here.
Then, when the New World Order has imploded, we will have both the assembly of a sufficient body of
people as well as of leadership to begin reestablishing liberty on an even higher scale than it has
ever been implemented on this planet.
That will be the time for the remnant to shine, but it will be made possible because of the
preparations that will have been made long before that time.
Then will the ultimate victory of the constitutionalists be brought to fruition, as this banner of
freedom under this new people and its leadership will go forth from here to all the world, who will
then be eager for the solution it presents, Satan's plan having been implemented and shown to be a
full mockery of all that is good and true.
Faith and freedom will prevail.
